Size Guide

Alpha sizes

Tops, dresses and swim are sized XS to XL, with a few pieces cut as S/M and M/L. This is the standard US women's mapping we buy to.

Size US numeric How to measure
XS 0–2 Bust: tape around the fullest part of the chest, level under the arms, tape flat and not pulled tight.
S 4–6 Waist: tape around the narrowest part of the torso, usually just above the navel; keep one finger under the tape.
M 8–10 Hips: tape around the fullest part of the seat, feet together, tape level all the way round.
L 12–14 Shoulder to hem: measure from the high point of the shoulder straight down to where you want the garment to end.
XL 16 If two measurements land in different sizes, take the larger one for fitted styles and the smaller for anything cut loose.
S/M 4–10 Combined sizing on stretch and one-size-ish pieces: measure the waist and use the range rather than a single number.
M/L 8–14 Combined sizing at the larger end: same method, measure the waist and read the range.

Denim and numeric sizes

Jeans and some shorts are sized by the waist. The 24–31 numbers are the waist measurement in inches; the 1–13 numbers are the US junior sizing some of our denim is cut to.

Size What it means How to measure
24, 25, 26 Waist 24 to 26 inches Waist: tape around where the jeans will actually sit, not at the natural waist, and keep the tape level front and back.
27, 28, 29 Waist 27 to 29 inches Best check: lay a pair of jeans you already like flat, measure the waistband end to end and double it.
30, 31 Waist 30 to 31 inches Rise: measure from the top of the waistband down to the crotch seam to see whether a pair sits high or mid.
1, 3, 5 US junior sizing, smallest end Hips: junior sizing is cut straighter, so measure the hip as well as the waist and go by whichever is larger.
7, 9, 11, 13 US junior sizing, larger end Inseam: measure from the crotch seam down the inside leg to the hem to compare against the inseam on the product page.

If you are between sizes

Product pages carry the maker's own fit note wherever there is one, and most of the photographs state the model's height and the size she is wearing — that is usually the most useful number on the page. For anything fitted, take the larger size; for anything described as relaxed or oversized, the smaller one will still work. If you are still unsure, email support@armenclothing.com with the item and your measurements and we will tell you what we would put you in. Returns are open for 30 days if we get it wrong.
